News April 22, 2021

Hibs welcome Motherwell to Easter Road this weekend as they go head to head in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup.

This will be the 64th meeting between the two sides, with Hibs coming out on top on 29 occasions.

The two sides have already played each other three times, with both sides winning one and the other game ending as a 0-0 draw.

The last meeting saw Motherwell run out 2-0 winners, but how will Saturday’s game play out?

Hibs Form

A late goal from Livingston didn’t stop Jack Ross’ side from picking up all three points at the weekend, winning the game 2-1.

That was their first win from three attempts, and they have picked up just seven points from six matches. That means they currently sit in ninth spot in the form table.

The win against Livingston was the third time Hibs had won at home in four games, so they are in decent form at Easter Road.

Motherwell Form

Graham Alexander’s side made the most of playing against 10 men for 57 minutes as they beat Hamilton 1-0 at the weekend.

They are in very good form at the minute, having accumulated 13 points from their last six games. They now find themselves in second place in the form table.

Motherwell are slightly inconsistent on the road, though, failing to get back to back away wins in the league this season.

Our Picks For Hibs Picks – Hibs V Motherwell

In Focus

1. Will Hibernian score in the first half? Yes

Kevin Nisbet opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes before Martin Boyle added his second from the spot 18 minutes later.

It wasn’t surprising, though, as they have scored 12 from 17. That’s an average of 0.71 goals scored per first half at home.

However, it won’t be an easy task as Motherwell have kept a clean sheet in the first half in 56% of their away games this campaign.

2. Will Hibernian score in the second half? No

Hibs failed to find the net in the closing 45 minutes at the weekend, not that they needed to, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them fail again on Saturday.

In fact, they have failed to find the net in the second period in 41% of their games at Easter Road this season.

However, Motherwell have conceded 14 goals from 18, averaging 0.78 goals against per away game.

3. How many goals will Hibernian score? 2

Hibs scored four past Stranraer in the previous round, but it’s more likely going to be a similar score-line to the one on Saturday.

It wouldn’t be unusual, though, as Ross’ side have scored exactly two goals in 47% of their home games this campaign.

On the other hand, Motherwell have a better defensive record when they play away compared to at home.

They have conceded 22 goals from 18 games, which is an average of 1.22 goals against per match on the road.

4. Will Martin Boyle score? Yes

Boyle has been in good form recently, having found the net seven times in his last eight games.

His most recent goal came from the spot in the game against Livingston, his 15th goal of the season.

He doesn’t have the best record against Motherwell, though, having scored three times in 11 appearances against them.

5. Will Kevin Nisbet score? Yes

As previously mentioned, Nisbet was the man who opened the scoring against Livingston with a tap in.

That was his eighteenth goal of the season, with just one of them coming in the cup, as he continues to be Hibs’ top scorer.

This will be the fifth time the forward will have come up against Motherwell, however, he has never scored against them before.

6. Will Christian Doidge score? No

The forward has scored in each of the previous two rounds of the cup, having scored two against Queen of the South and one against Stranraer.

They are just three of his 10 goals this season, however, it’s been a while since he scored against same level opposition.

He does, however, have a good record against Motherwell. In the five games he’s played against them, he has scored twice.

Quickfire

  • How many shots on target will Martin Boyle have? 2
  • How many saves will Ofir Marciano make? 2
  • How many goals will Hibernian concede? 1
  • How many tackles will Ryan Porteous make? 1
