Hibs welcome Celtic to Easter Road this weekend, as they go head to head in the final game of the Scottish Premiership season.
Tom Pearce, Hibs Picks Predictor (@tompearce97)
This will be the 73rd meeting between the sides, with Hibs coming out on top on just 10 occasions.
The two teams have already played against each other three times this season, with two games ending in draws and the first Celtic taking all three points.
The last time Hibs met Celtic, a 92nd minute Kevin Nisbet goal saw Jack Ross’ side take a point back to Edinburgh.
How will Saturday’s game play out, though?
Hibs secured third place in the league for the first time since 2005 after they beat Aberdeen 1-0 on Wednesday night.
They have now won three of their last six matches, picking up 10 points from a possible 18. They now find themselves in third place in the form table.
Ross’ side have been slightly inconsistent at home recently, though, alternating between wins and losses in their last four games at Easter Road.
Celtic breezed past St. Johnstone in the week as they beat them 4-0 at Celtic Park.
They have now won just two of their last six, accumulating nine points from 18. That means they currently sit in fifth place in the form table.
Their away form really hasn’t been great recently either, having gone four games on the road without a win.
Our Picks For Hibs Picks – Hibs v Celtic
1. Will Hibernian score in the first half? Yes
Christian Doidge scored in the 41st minute against Aberdeen, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Hibs score in the opening 45 again this weekend.
That’s due to the fact that Hibs have a better goalscoring record in the first half compared to the second when at home.
It certainly won’t be easy, though, as Celtic have conceded just seven from 18, which is an average of 0.39 goals against per first on the road.
2. Will Hibernian score in the second half? No
Ross’ side have failed to find the net in the closing 45 minutes in each of their last three league games.
It’s not too surprising as they have scored just nine from 18, which is an average of 0.5 goals scored per second half at home.
Meanwhile, Celtic have kept a clean sheet in the second period in 56% of their away games this season.
3. How many goals will Hibernian score? 1
Hibs scored the one goal last time out as well as scoring just the one the last time they faced Celtic.
However, Hibs have scored exactly one in just 11% of their home games this campaign.
The visitors have conceded 18 goals from 18 matches on the road, which is an average of one goal against per away game.
4. Will Kevin Nisbet score? No
Nisbet does have a decent record against Celtic, having scored two goals in four games against them.
The forward is still Hibs’ top goal-scorer this season, having scored 18 goals, with 12 of them coming in the league.
He’s not in the best form at the minute, though, as he has scored just one in his last nine league appearances.
5. How many shots on target will Hibernian have? 3
Hibs had just eight shots against Aberdeen, however, they still managed to test Gary Woods with four of them.
They have now hit the target 156 times this campaign, which is an average of 4.22 shots on goal per game.
Scott Bain and Vasilios Barkas have shared the minutes between the sticks this campaign, playing all but five games.
Between them and Conor Hazard, they have all faced just 90 attempts on their goal. That’s an average of 2.43 shots on target against per 90 minutes.
6. Will Hibernian score a penalty? No
Hibs don’t tend to win many penalties, especially at Easter Road, as they have won just four there all season.
Meanwhile, Celtic have conceded five penalties, with four of them coming in games on the road.
The man with the whistle, William Collum, has awarded 19 spot kicks in the 44 games he has officiated in, in all competitions.
- Will Kyle Magennis assist a goal? No
- How many corners will Hibernian be awarded? 4+
- How many tackles will Lewis Stevenson make? 2
- How many saves will Hibernian goalkeepers make? 3
- Will Hibernian concede a goal? Yes
